About
AI Animation Studio is a creative team building experience that combines hands-on making, storytelling and artificial intelligence. Each team begins away from the screen, using paper templates, colours and craft materials to design, fold and build its own original 3D character. Participants must discuss ideas, make creative choices and work together to give their character a unique look, personality and identity.
Once the handmade character is complete, the team photographs it and uses AI tools to transform the physical creation into a digital animated character. From there, participants develop a storyline, create scenes, generate visual environments and bring their character to life through movement, voice and sound.
The challenge is not simply to use AI. Teams must turn different perspectives and individual contributions into one clear creative direction. Story development, visual consistency, role allocation and production decisions all require active communication and collaboration.
The experience concludes with each team completing a short animated film and presenting it at the AI Animation Film Festival, where everyone can see how a simple handmade character has evolved into a shared digital story.
Learning outcomes
AI Animation Studio demonstrates how strong collaboration begins before technology enters the process. During the character-building stage, participants must listen to different ideas, make decisions together and turn individual suggestions into one physical creation. The activity encourages people to contribute in different ways, whether through design, storytelling, organisation, problem solving or technical execution.
As teams move from paper character to digital production, collaboration becomes more interdependent. A clear character concept supports the storyboard. A clear storyboard supports the AI prompts. Strong visual outputs support the animation and editing process. Participants experience how the quality of one person's contribution can directly affect the next stage of the team's work.
The AI production process also encourages adaptability. Teams may need to refine prompts, change scenes, solve visual inconsistencies or rethink parts of the story when the first result does not work as expected.
Most importantly, participants experience AI as a tool for amplifying human creativity rather than replacing it. The final film is created through technology, but its character, direction, meaning and story still come from the team's shared decisions.
